How to Lose Your Focus

If you should ever find it too easy to focus on things to manifest them or get them done, here are 11 quick tips for you that will definitely help you out!

1. “Try” to Focus!
To heck with Yoda, he got it wrong when he said “Do or do not. There is no try.” There is! He didn’t understand the value of “trying” for our mission today. If you find yourself about to start focusing on something, don’t really commit to it. I mean, are you even really sure that this makes sense? (Of course you’re not!) Who knows if it’s actually going to benefit you or someone else if you complete this thing? What if what you want to manifest is not going to come to pass because the Universe decides that today, just for once, just to try this and see what happens, it won’t follow your decision and just refuses to work in alignment with its own laws? (Stuff happens, you never know!)

2. Check Email!
Checking email every 15 minutes or so works so well that people have already written books about its focus-countering effects! But take care that you don’t reply to the messages you get, even if they’re important or urgent or both. Like this you can make double use of this practice – taking your attention somewhere else for a little while and adding mental clutter to your mind that will distract you even more! Isn’t that fabulous!

3. Use Food!
Especially while working away at your computer you can get up every couple of minutes (20 would be optimal) and go find something small to eat, then snack away while trying to focus. Make sure the snack is really tasty and speaks to your subconscious so you’ll have a hard time putting the food away or stopping for your subconscious will make you get it out and continue again.

4. Use Music!
Put on music in the “background” that requires your attention. Don’t use meditative or otherwise minimal, steady music, and also no music that you know so well already that you don’t feel like focusing on it any more. Instead, use pace-changing music, with lots of singing, shouting and screaming. The more aggressive, the better. And don’t forget to turn up the volume if your focus is really tough to beat.

5. Open Door!
Make sure you leave the door to the room you’re working in open so that it invites chatty people to come visit you. Put down any “DND” signs you might still have sticking to your door as it may reduce the effectiveness of this practice. I know, it’s ridiculous, who would ever want to put such a sign on his door, but I figure better safe than sorry – we want maximum results, right?

I can feel it, you’re already on a roll, and let’s really push it now:

6. Up Up Into Your Head!
If what you’re focusing on has anything to do with your body, like some kind of physical work aspect, make sure that you keep your mind really busy and don’t pay too much attention to your body’s sensations. Your awareness must stay in your head, on your thoughts… get creative! Letting it slip into different parts of your body, perceiving all the different sensations of heat, cold, friction, movement, touch of things and so forth can really wreak havoc on your efforts to dilute your focus, so be on the lookout!

7. Think: What else?
While you’re still kind of focusing on that one thing, bring to mind at least 5 other things that absolutely need to get done. It’s not like they really need to get done soon or at all, but you can use them anyway. Just affirm to yourself: “This item, -insert item description-, is so hugely important and urgent and I fear I won’t have time to do it at some later time. I worry about not making enough progress on it, even though I’m currently focusing on doing something else.”
Scattering your focus is one of the most effective ways to get results!

8. Worry More!
Come on, it’s not like you can worry only about other tasks you should or have to do. Get creative! How about that thing that you think that person you hardly know could be thinking about you? That’s not “important enough” to worry about? Now now, how about using your uber-skills in self-suggestion, affirmation and belief-change to blow this thing out of proportion? Everyone can use a good dose of fear of other people’s judgements and expectations and you can have yours, too!

9. Follow Your Thoughts!
Your mind is such a powerful helper in our quest today. As always it provides you with an abundance of irrelevant thoughts. Yes, usually you’re used to not becoming attached to them, observing them, letting them go and all that stuff. But set aside this bad habit of yours for now and really follow those thoughts. Pay close attention to them, feel them, worry about what kind of reality they would lead to if they were really true and examine all of the implications this would bring with it! Man, this is lots of work to do, if that can’t almost dissolve your focus by itself, then you’re not trying properly!

10. Slack Off!
Whatever it is you’re focusing on, you shouldn’t put all of your skill, energy and heart into it. That would be… well… Ah, I think you get it. Just sow some doubt as to whether it really makes sense to push yourself, learn something, provide the best value you can while increasing the probability to get into the flow. I know you can. Just think about how few people actually do their work in this best possible way and ask yourself why, then, should you? Your mind will happily accept this as a valid reason and off you go to an even lower focus level! Yay!

11. Fear the Completion!
It can be really hard to escape from the focus level increasing effects of finishing something, getting it done fully. So if you are really committed to integrate today’s lesson, you have to make your mind work in your favor. Come up with 5 fears that use “completing a task” as a trigger! You know plenty of examples already, I’m sure. Just accept them as your own fears and reap the rewards. How about that old “We don’t fear that we’re idiots, but rather that we’re gods.” (or so, sorry, I’m good at using the methods already mentioned, so I couldn’t focus enough to actually find the right quote!), and gods get stuff done and focus like hell, so feel that fear! Feel how terrible and painful it would be to be powerful beyond measure! Oh, the responsibility, that would be just too much to handle! Continue with 4 more fears and watch the results.

Awesome, you’ve come a long way if you’ve followed and at least partially understood these principles. Applying even two or three of them at the same time will bring you absolutely phenomenal results – you’ll absolutely destroy your focus! Mission accomplished!

The ACE Principles

Just a few days ago while I was running along the river, inspiration hit me: There are a few fundamental principles underlying the most important ideas I have learned and developed throughout the last years and especially months of focused personal growth.

Awareness

To be living consciously means to be aware. If you are not aware of something, like a thought pattern, negative belief or habit, you are at the mercy of that thing. Your habits can control your life without you understanding why, leaving you feeling powerless, victimized. What you are aware of, on the other hand, you can observe, understand and change.

So becoming more aware of basically everything that is in any way relevant to you and your life is of great importance if you want to live a conscious, fulfilling life on purpose.

Choice

The Universe will never contradict you.

There is no higher authority in your life and reality than you yourself. What you choose to experience will come to you, and what you choose to not experience you can never allow into your life. Sounds simple enough, the challenge though is to first fully internalize this understanding on a fundamental level, to know it from the core of your being, and then to go on and become more aware of how you already make the choices you make and gain control of them in order to create the life experience you truly desire.

Excitement

You have unique and personal guidance available to you at all times. In every single moment there is a path leading to everything you choose to experience and you have the ability to tune in to the voice that lets you know how to get onto this particular path.
This guidance comes in many forms, and the simplest and most readily and easily available one is called Excitement – but also Creativity and Passion and Love and Joy serve the same purpose. All you ever have to do is to look around at all the options of what to do available to you at any given moment and choose to act upon the one that contains the highest amount of one of the above emotions, such as Excitement, and start acting on it until you can no longer take more action upon it. Repeat this process and be passionate about being passionate so your Passion (Excitement, Creativity, …) will be sustained and you will stay on your path of passion and purpose.

How the ACE Principles work together

Now if you put those principles together really awesome things can happen in your life. By utilizing Awareness you can become aware of all the ways that you create your life experience and take control of them. The principle of Choice then lets you make new and more pleasing choices that are more in alignment with who you really are and what you really want. Your Excitement then will solve the “How to get there?” part for you.

By simply becoming aware of where your Excitement, your Love, your Passion is, making the Choice to follow it, intending to gain more and more Awareness of all the things that make up your life experience and then repeating that process over and over is a total recipe for creating the unique, fulfilling and joyful life experience that you desire.

If what you want is to grow, become the best person you can be and share that with as many people as possibly, that is where the ACE Principles will lead you.
If what you want is to lead a clutter-less, relaxed, abundant and free life, that is where you will end up.
And even if you only want to conquer the world in whatever way you imagine that to make sense for you, then there is no single reason why you wouldn’t get exactly to that place… remember, the Universe won’t contradict you ;)

Please take a moment now to silence your mind, let go of everything, just be aware of the present moment. Present to yourself the principles of Awareness, Choice and Excitement. Wonder for just a moment about whether or not they make sense to you, if they really speak to you at a core level, if you feel that they make sense intuitively, on a gut level. If you find that they do, simply state the intention to yourself that you want to

a) become more aware of anything that is relevant to your unique life and purpose,
b) become more aware of the choices you make and to allow yourself more and more to make the choices that are in alignment with who you really are and what you really want, no matter how unreasonable or idealistic they may seem,
c) become aware of where your excitement is and to trust and follow it more and more, always to the degree that you feel comfortable and capable of doing this.

Also, if anything about those intentions or concepts seems unclear to you, simply state a question about it and try to not answer it immediately, but just stay in this feeling of being curious to receive an answer, like you knew there was a very wise person sitting just a few feet behind you, just about to give you the answer. That will also bring forth more of your own wisdom and guidance from within you and make the intentions you’ve just stated even more powerful.

In the near future we are going to explore all of the three ACE principles in more depth and with a strong focus on the practical value they can bring to your experience in every single moment.
Until then just start playing around with those ideas as much as you feel intrigued or inspired to do so and be sure to let me know how it goes! ;)
